- February 8, 2010 - A bill that would require harsher penalties for individuals who injure or attempt to injure nurses was passed in the Senate Jan. 25. Current penal law calls for harsher penalties for those who assault emergency medical professionals, firemen, and police officers. The bill (S.4018/A.3103) would amend the law by expanding the definition of assault on emergency medical professionals to include registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, while also changing the term "fireman" to "firefighter" and including "she" in the definition of those who may cause injury to another person.
Assemblyman Richard Brodsky (D-Westchester) and Assembly Colleagues have introduced legislation that creates a commission to commemorate the anniversary of the War of 1812 (A.8405). New York State played a key role in War of 1812. Celebrating this milestone gives New Yorkers the opportunity to appreciate and reflect on our rich history. Many of the War’s most crucial battles were fought in the state such as the battle of Plattsburg Bay where ten thousand Americans stood against the British in defense of New York City.
